The 42nd annual Children's Charities Tennis Classic is all ready to go.

Don Lukowski, founder and chairperson of the charity tennis tournament, announced the tournament is set to get underway this weekend at the New Britain High School Tennis Courts. According to Lukowski, more than 35 players have registered for the tourney in seven divisions, which will play Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

In the 41 years of the tournament, more than $165,000 has been raised for various pediatric hospital charities in New Britain. One hundred percent of all entry fees and donations are given directly to the hospital.

“I'm very happy and pleased that so many players plan to play and support our tourney,” Luskowski said in a statement. “It looks to be a fun weekend with players from throughout central Connecticut stepping up and helping to raise money for the Hospital for Special Care's new autism unit. The hospital and its staff do a great job of helping those young people on the autism spectrum and I'm so glad that we are able to support their efforts. It's wonderful to know that we have such a great facility right here in New Britain."

Lukowski also stated that due to covid-19, the tournament will be adhering to certain CDC and USTA covid-19 guidelines.

“Our top priority is to keep everyone safe and healthy,” Lukowski said.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to the tournament may contact Lukowski at DonL7533@aol.com or stop by the tournament this weekend.
